Nahis Cruz-Delgado participates in summer REU program!

Congratulations to Nahis Cruz-Delgado for completion of the University of Florida’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) through the Department of Chemical Engineer, with the support of the National Science Foundation. Nahis is studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico and was one of fourteen students selected to participate in this program. Participants in the REU program benefit from conducting research in a broad range of topics relevant to chemical engineering in a diverse and inclusive environment. During her time in the Sharma Lab, Nahis characterized a 3D model to interrogate hypoxia-induced inactivation of NK cell functions.

“Nahis is very passionate about research and was extremely motivated to complete experiments. She is a great student and was a pleasure to work with. During her time here, I had the opportunity to mentor her on developing, executing, and analyzing her experiments. I am confident Nahis will make significant contributions to the scientific field and I am excited to watch her future endeavors,” said Suzanne Lightsey, Nahis’ graduate student mentor.

At the end of the summer, Nahis disseminated her findings from the summer in an oral presentation. See the photos below of Nahis’ summer experience in the Sharma Lab!
