BME announces graduate leadership change

Dr. Christine E. Schmidt, J. Crayton Pruitt Family Chair & BME Department Chair, recently announced changes to the department’s graduate leadership team.

The following appointment is effective August 16, 2022:

  • Dr. Gregory Hudalla, associate professor, appointed to graduate coordinator

Hudalla has a longstanding commitment to engineering leadership, both as an educator and researcher. His inspired commitment to higher education and the UF BME community is greatly appreciated. We look forward to his leadership!

The department is grateful to acknowledge the service of:

  • Dr. Peter McFetridge, associate professor

McFetridge made numerous key contributions to the department during his time as the graduate coordinator advising MS students and enhancing MS recruitment. McFetridge helped the department’s Master’s students make more accessible class choices for different ‘paths,’ promoted research engagement courses offered by the Engineering Innovation Institute, and emphasized our clinical correlations and immersion programs. McFetridge also developed a recruiting plan for South America (SA), including creating and mailing flyers and posters about our program that were translated into Spanish and Portuguese. He identified the top 20 South American institutions with engineering programs (BME and other related departments) to create a database of contact details. His approach was to outline UF benefits to student applicants – not just academics but other positive attributes of being at UF. McFetridge has also helped to initiate a program with UF Innovate (HUB) to create a web portal for local businesses to expand and make more readily available internships for our MS students (both paid and unpaid). Thank you!
