Krista Smith awarded the University of Florida Superior Accomplishment Award

The J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Engineering proudly celebrates Krista Smith, Graduate Advisor, for her recent achievement of the University of Florida Superior Accomplishment Award in the Employee Performance category of Student & Academic Services. This recognition highlights Krista’s exceptional dedication and contributions to our community.

The Superior Accomplishment Awards recognizes faculty and staff members who contribute outstanding and meritorious service, efficiency and/or economy, or have created an impact on the quality of life provided to students and employees. This program is designed to recognize outstanding faculty and staff for their dedication to their jobs and for going above and beyond to advance the mission of our great university and serve the community at-large.

In a nomination letter submitted by Mike Nazareth, Director for Graduate Recruiting and Undergraduate Research at the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, Krista’s remarkable achievements were spotlighted. Mike emphasized Krista’s willingness to assist beyond normal expectations and her innovative initiatives, which have earned her this distinguished honor.

During a crucial period in mid-February, with the Spring Visit for 175 newly admitted Ph.D. students imminent, Krista demonstrated unparalleled dedication amidst unforeseen challenges. In the face of a sudden departure of essential staff support, Krista swiftly filled the void, ensuring the seamless execution of critical tasks such as airport pickups, volunteer coordination, and event arrangements.

Krista’s proactive approach and selfless dedication were instrumental in the success of the Spring Visit program. She took on the responsibility of managing all aspects of the event with precision, ensuring a memorable experience for attendees. Her exceptional service exemplifies the values of collaboration and dedication cherished within our college.

Beyond her exemplary performance during the Spring Visit, Krista’s innovative initiatives, including the creation of the BME Grad Student Recess, have positively impacted the well-being of graduate students. This further reflects Krista’s commitment to enhancing student experiences and fostering a sense of community within the department.
