The Tim Brahm Endowed Term Professorship in Biomedical Engineering was founded in 2015 to bolster a collaborative research partnership between the University of Florida J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering and the biotechnology company, BioD.

BioD is a leading regenerative medicine company engaged in the development and commercialization of novel biologic products derived from placental tissues. The professorship is bestowed on faculty members who specializes in regenerative medicine, a revolutionary research area that involves engineering tissues and cells to establish and restore normal functioning. Regenerative medicine is the central focus of this new research collaboration.

Dr. Peter McFetridge’s primary research objective is to engineer viable ‘living’ tissue and organs for the repair and regeneration of diseased tissues. His groups’ research encompasses angiogenesis and arterial regeneration, articular cartilage development as well as effects on primary and stem cell phenotype driven by mechanical and nutrient variation in the ECM microenvironment. He has received over 850 citations since 2002 along with multiple patent applications and one granted.
