Basics Of Joining A Team

With over 300 members and dozens of different projects, our organization has something for everyone. If you are a University of Florida student or in the Gainesville area and want to get involved in a meaningful way to affect your community, you’ve come to the right place!

GRiP is a great place to develop your technical and teamwork skills in a goal-oriented environment, regardless of your experience level. Our interdisciplinary teams allow members to pursue their interests both in and outside of their fields of study and are a great way to meet people within the college of engineering and the university as a whole. We are more than just a design team!

We encourage members of our hands, gaming, or research teams to also join the non-technical teams in GRiP. This includes our traditional art team, marketing team, and digital art team.

We are a group of young professionals working to make positive changes in the world around us through service and the application of the skills we have learned both inside and outside of the classroom. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at gripinfouf@gmail.com or stop by one of our labs in MAE 339 or MAE B 214.

We often table at events and have an organization-wide meeting, called the General Body Meeting, at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters each year.

We also will have a new DEI Liasion whose goal is to help make your experience in our organization both productive and safe. If you ever have an issue, contact ___ on Slack.

The 3D-Printed Assistive Devices Division teams produce prosthetic arms and other assistive devices that are fitted for a specific recipient. The designs are prototyped and printed in our lab and are free to children and teens with upper limb differences.

These teams are led by our Assistive Devices Project Managers. They serve to coordinate the work of the captains who lead our several teams. They also collaborate closely to coordinate Hand Camp each year where we give away many devices to kids & teens with limb differences.

The Adaptive Gaming Division teams specialize in modifying gaming devices and toys for those with differences. We take pride in developing ergonomic and intuitive devices such as PS4 controllers, Nintendo Switch Controllers, GameCube Controllers, and a wide array of toys.

These teams are led by our Adaptive Gaming Project Managers. They serve to coordinate the work of the captains who lead our several teams. They also collaborate closely to coordinate Adaptathon each year where we work to adapt as many toys & devices as possible.

The Research Division teams focus on researching different technologies to improve our devices, to allow us to be more eco-friendly, and expand on the devices we currently offer. The research division utilizes both electrical and mechanical skills to complete these projects. These teams are led by our Research Project Managers. They serve to coordinate the work of the captains who lead our several teams. These teams have a mixture of students interested in the electrical engineering work of our Adaptive Gaming teams and the CAD design work of our 3D-Printed Assistive Devices teams. If you have a proposal for a way we can innovate, this may be the division for you. Learn more about this division here!
