Abstract:

The long-term goal of my research is to elucidate mechanisms of beta cell loss in diabetes. Delineating pathways contributing to beta cell loss will significantly impact therapies designed to restore beta cell mass whether from stimulation of adult beta cell regeneration or replacement from islet transplantation or stem cells. Current areas of investigation are in situ 3D modeling of beta cells and profiling immune cells involved in beta cell destruction.
