Ding receives the HWCOE Doctoral Dissertation Advisor/Mentoring Award for 2018-2019

Congratulations to Dr. Mingzhou Ding, distinguished professor and J. Crayton Pruitt Family Professor, who recently received the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering Doctoral Dissertation Advisor/Mentoring Award for 2018-2019.

Ding’s mentoring philosophy is to design a research program that takes each student’s interest and prior educational background into consideration. He challenges and inspires his students to think about their research in new ways and to develop the necessary experimental and analytical skills. In addition to instilling the importance of independent and critical thinking, he encourages teamwork and emphasizes effective communication. Each year the students are given the opportunity to present their research at international conferences. His students routinely work with collaborators in multiple disciplines within and without the university. The students trained in his lab are well prepared for any career path they may choose to pursue.

The Doctoral Dissertation Advisor/Mentoring Award recognizes excellence, innovation and effectiveness in doctoral student advising and mentoring. Ding will be formally acknowledged at the Spring Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering Awards Luncheon in April.
