BME student receives BMES Career Development Travel Award

UF BME Ph.D. student, Shruti Siva Kumar, was selected to receive a 2017 BMES Career Development Travel Award. The award covers registration and a travel allowance for the BMES annual meeting in Phoenix, Arizona.

Those eligible for the Travel Awards were graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and early career faculty and professionals at critical transition or re-entry points in their careers from underrepresented and underserved populations in biomedical engineering to include racial and ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities.

Kumar’s research interests are in the fields of medical imaging and computational modeling in oncology. She uses mathematical models to study photon and proton radiation therapy effects on the heart and lungs in breast cancer patients. Kumar’s advisor is Dr. Walter O’Dell.
