BME faculty, staff, and students receive UF and HWCOE Excellence Awards

Congratulations to the following recipients of the 2021 Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) Faculty, Student, and Staff Excellence Awards:

Dr. Kyle Allen, associate professor, received the HWCOE Faculty Excellence in Leadership Award. This award recognizes and rewards a faculty member who has best demonstrated extraordinary leadership within their department, the HWCOE, the university, and/or the broader engineering profession, and best exemplifies leadership, as defined by leadership, attributes expected of our Gator Engineering students: visionary; inspiring; a skilled communicator; mission-focused, engaged and committed; caring and fair; thoughtful; collaborative; professional; having a positive attitude, and having sound perspective and strong intuition.

Dr. Sarah Furtney, instructional assistant professor and undergraduate coordinator, received the HWCOE Faculty Advisor/Mentor of the Year Award. This award, based on an extensive review of her credentials, letters of recommendation, and peer and student evaluations, recognizes excellence in mentoring our students. 

Dr. Edward A. Phelps, assistant professor and J. Crayton Pruitt Family Term Fellow, received the UF Excellence Award for Assistant Professors. This award recognizes and rewards a faculty member who brings distinction to the university through their outstanding commitment to teaching, scholarship, service, research, and creative activity. The awards are focused on junior faculty and recognize excellence in research.

Candi Crimmins, marketing and communications specialist, received the HWCOE Staff Award for Innovation. The Staff Innovation Excellence Award recognizes and rewards an HWCOE staff member who has best demonstrated extraordinary innovation and creativity in their job duties and best exemplifies innovation as defined by introducing new processes or outcomes that can have a significant impact on the advancement of their office.

  • Madison Temples, Ph.D. candidate, received the HWCOE Attributes of a Gator Engineer Award for Professional Excellence
  • Shreedevi Kumar, Ph.D. candidate, received the HWCOE Attributes of a Gator Engineer Award for Integrity
