Austin, TX USA, December 21, 2017 – Alafair Biosciences, Inc., an early-stage biotechnology company, today announced that it has launched its first product, VersaWrap® Tendon Protector (VersaWrap®), in the U.S. market. VersaWrap® is an ultrathin, sutureless, bioresorbable hydrogel that protects tendon gliding by creating a gelatinous layer between injured tendons and surrounding soft tissues.

“There had been a gap in our armamentarium for avoiding tendon adhesions following tendon repair procedures, particularly in confined areas of the hand, wrist, foot and ankle,” stated Cameron Atkinson, MD, an orthopedic surgeon with a specialty in hand and wrist procedures and the first surgeon to clinically implant VersaWrap. “VersaWrap fills that gap. The ultrathin profile of VersaWrap provides a novel solution to this clinical need. It wrapped beautifully between the tendons at the dorsum of the wrist, and the sutureless application made it quick and easy to position it exactly where I needed it prior to closure.”

VersaWrap® Tendon Protector is the first product in the VersaWrap® family of products to receive 510(k) clearance and is indicated for the management and protection of tendon injuries in which there has been no substantial loss of tendon tissue.

of a sheet and a wetting solution. The VersaWrap® sheet is easy to handle, can be cut to size, and is designed for placement on or around injured tendons. The sheet can be repositioned as needed. Once positioned, the VersaWrap®
solution is applied to the sheet surface causing conformability to underlying tissues and a gelatinous layer to facilitate tendon gliding while protecting the tendon from unwanted scar tissue attachment.
