Biomaterials

  • Dental Biomaterials
    Develop and characterize mechanical properties of new materials as alternates to amalgams.
  • Medical Biomaterials 
    Develop novel bioactive implants as bone substitutes and replacements and determine the mechanical reliability of allotropic tissue implants for spinal fixation.

Fracture

  • Atomic Fracture Processes 
    Molecular Orbital (MO) and Molecular Dynamics (MD) modeling of bond breaking processes at the crack tip of brittle materials.
  • Fractal Fracture 
    Modeling brittle fracture processes as a fractal process, i.e., application of fractal geometry to fracture in brittle materials.  Experimental determination of the fractal dimension.
  • Quantitative Fractography 
    Application of fracture mechanics to determine quantitatively the markings on a brittle fracture surface.
