Research

Attenuating the inflammatory wound-healing response through bilayer, bifunctional HA materials

The objective of my research is to develop an anti cell-adhesive, biocompatible barrier material to isolate injury from fibrillar network formation. This base material can be layered with other anti-inflammatory materials or cell-adhesive materials to provide a bilayer, bifunctional material. Central to this research is the application of these biocompatible materials for injury isolation and the bioconjugation opportunities for further bifunctionalization. These bifunctional materials are useful for a number of biological applications including nerve injury, but may also be applied to many areas of tissue engineering as a patch.
